چکیده

Using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, we studied silicon particles formed during the solidification of Al-7%Si alloy when different modifying mixtures were introduced into the melt: (1) a mixture of ultrafine powders Na3AlF6 + K2ZrF6 + TiO2 + ZrO2; (2) K2ZrF6; and (3) the flux Arsal. By differential scanning calorimetry, it was established that modifying mixtures significantly influenced the temperature of the solidification processes. The formation of two types of Si crystals was established. The first type of Si crystals precipitated during the solidification of the eutectic mixture (α-Al + Si) in the form of needles or plates. The second type of Si crystals was segregated from eutectic Al-phases or segregated from the solid phase α-Al upon cooling in the solid state. The introduction of modifiers led to a shift in solidification temperatures. When fluoride salts were used, there was an increase in the temperature of eutectic solidification. Silicon crystals were large (up to 10 μm), with a local excess of aluminum concentration.

THE EFFECT OF CRYOLITE NA3ALF6 AND SODIUM FLUORIDE NAF ON THE CORROSION AND WETTING BY MOLTEN AL-SI ALLOY OF ANDALUSITE BASED REFRACTORIES

In order to improve the corrosion resistance of aluminosilicate refractories by molten aluminum, alkaline fluoride NaF and cryolite Na3AlF6 powders were studied. Both physical and chemical properties are known to influence wetting and corrosion behavior. This paper devoted to determine the influence of alkaline fluoride and cryolite added to andalusite based castable on the reaction with a...

THE INFLUENCE OF DRY SLIDING ON PRCIPITATION HARDENING BEHAVIORS OF Al-Cu-Si ALLOY

Abstract: Cold working performed before an aging treatment has a significant effect on size and amount of precipitate produced. This could be caused by the increase in defect density, such as vacancies and dislocations. In this research, the Al-Cu-Si alloy was solution-treated, wear-tested and then artificially aged for a period of 1–5 h. Changes in the amount of precipitate, in the lattice par...

EFFECT OF COMPOSITION ON PHASE EVOLUTION AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF REACTION BONDED MULLITE (RBM)

Compositions of Al2O3+Si, SiO2+Al and Al+Si systems were prepared to study the effect of reaction bonding process on the mullite formation. The composition of each system was adopted according to mullite stoichiometery and sintered in 700-1600°C range. Results showed that the formation of reaction bonded mullite starting from Al2O3+Si mixtures, proceeded in two partially overlapping steps, the ...

DENDRITE FRAGMENTATION IN THE SHEARED MELT BY FATIGUE EROSION MECHANISM OF SEMISOLID Al-Si ALLOY (A.356.0

Over the last few decades, there have been many mechanisms proposed to describe the formation of the non-dendritic microstructures during Semisolid Metal (SSM) processing; including dendrite fragmentation, spherical growth, cellular growth and recalescence. Dendrite fragmentation is the most popular mechanism of all these hypotheses. It is the purpose of the present article to examine the morph...

Study of the Mechanism and Causes of Pore Formation in Sr-modified Al-Si Alloys

The formation of microporosity in modified Al-Si alloys has been reviewed in the present study. A major concern in modification is the increased tendency to form microporosity in the macro-shrinkage free Al-Si alloy castings. It has also been demonstrated that at low hydrogen contents (0.1cc/ 100g, Al), where only shrinkage porosity should occur, the effect of Sr-modification on porosity conten...
